A group under the umbrella of Human Rights Advocacy Organization has advocated for a violence-free election in Ebonyi State.

The group made up of different tribes including Fulani, Yoruba, Hausa, Efik, Igbo and South-South people, on Friday moved along major roads in Abakaliki to the police headquarters down to government house to press home their demands.

Addressing the group in Government House Abakaliki, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr  Ofor Okorie, commended the group for taking the bold step in advocating for free fair elections in the state.

He urged them to vote for a leader that has the interest of the people at heart and as a human right organization, they should stand on their rights.

“We grant you that you will go and cast your vote freely. Whatever that is your tribe you are protected. We will all ensure that there are violence free elections.

“Don’t vote for any leader who don’t have the interest of Nigeria at heart as a human rights group, stand on your right and defend your votes”.

On his part, the founder of the group, Mrs. Nwakego Jacinta Nworie noted that violence could scare the prospective voters from coming out and such will lead to apathy.

“We say no to election violence, we say no to election malpractice. This is not a political gathering, but a gathering that allows people to follow their conscience.

“Our mandate is to defend people’s rights, people should follow their minds, and we took time to visit the 13 LGAs of Ebonyi state to get people’s opinions about the present government. And we were told that this government has done well and deserves some kudos”.
