A political group, United Ughelli South Political Reawakening Forum, has called on Chief Emuoboh Gbagi to contest the 2027 Delta State House of Assembly election, citing the need for improved representation and accelerated development in Ughelli South.
The group made the call in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday, where it expressed concern over what it described as the slow pace of infrastructural development in the area, attributing it to years of poor representation.
In the statement signed by its Chairman, Martins Ovedje, and Secretary, Onajite Ejaiita, the forum said Ughelli South could not afford to repeat past mistakes in the 2027 elections.
The group lamented that despite being an ancient city, Ughelli South had continued to suffer from underdevelopment, noting that the situation would have been different if past representatives had demonstrated strong business acumen and leadership capacity.
According to the forum, a review of past representation showed that only Reuben Izeze made a notable impact during the administration of former governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.
It argued that Chief Gbagi possesses the intellectual depth and business expertise required to reposition the area, describing him as a capable leader with a track record in enterprise and development.
The group also referenced his lineage as the son of late business mogul and former minister, Kenneth Gbagi, stating that he has sustained and expanded the family’s business legacy.
“We are convinced that Ughelli South will be in safe hands in terms of transformational growth if someone like Emuoboh Gbagi is elected to represent the area,” the statement read.
The forum, therefore, urged residents of Ughelli South to support Gbagi’s potential candidacy in 2027, expressing optimism that his leadership would usher in social, infrastructural, and economic development in the area.
