The Department of English and Literary Studies at Delta State University, Abraka, is set to honour one of its most esteemed scholars, Professor Macaulay Mowarin, with a retirement symposium celebrating his extraordinary academic journey and contribution to the field of linguistics.

The event, which will take place on Wednesday, May 14, at 10:00 AM in the university’s iconic 750 Hall A, marks the culmination of Professor Mowarin’s 31 years of dedicated service to the institution.

Professor Mowarin, a revered figure in the world of sociolinguistics, language contact, and pidgin studies, is recognized not only for his groundbreaking research but also for his mentorship of generations of students and academics.

His leadership as head of the department shaped the intellectual culture of the faculty and elevated the profile of linguistic studies within and beyond the university.

The symposium, themed “The Academic and National Destiny in the Global South,” will feature a keynote lecture by Professor Willy Ehwarieme—an influential political scientist known for his provocative insights on federalism and governance in developing nations.
