Nigerians have been reacting to Wednesday’s editorial by one of Nigeria’s standout newspapers, The PUNCH’s decision to address President Muhammadu Buhari henceforth with his military rank of a Major General.
Currently, the Nigerian social media space is presently agog with dissenting opinions on the editorial as many of the reactions have hailed The PUNCH Newspapers for telling truth to power.
Here are some of the reactions on twitter.
My attention has been drawn to the fact that @MobilePunch has unveiled Buhari's new Home kit Jersey for this season
— Ebube The Statesman (@akaebube) December 11, 2019
"Major General Buhari Rtd"
The new jersey reflects his old club tradition of reckless tackles on Human Rights and Unbeaten record of Tyranny.
Before, during and after 2019 election, PDP and its presidential candidate had called the President ‘Major General Buhari’ thousands times and it didn’t stop Nigerians from trusting and giving their President another four years mandate. Calling him that will NEVER be a bad thing.

While I feel sorry for Aisha Buhari for what she's going through at the hands of Mamman Daurq, @GarShehu and his other cohorts. I refuse to be distracted that Punch has taken the most patriotic stand any Nigerian has even taken since 2015 against General Buhari's regime.

So Bakare called our President, "General Buhari" a few days ago. Today, @MobilePunch announces they will refer to our President as General Buhari. But of course, he's a General. It's just like those who think they are abusing me by calling me an old woman. I'm an old woman.

🤣🤣
We are asking @10DowningStreet @BorisJohnson to immediately impose sanctions on the REGIME of MAJOR GENERAL BUHARI in Nigeria. Nigeria is not a democracy.

The editorial by @MobilePunch is proof we were correct. Nigeria is in a total dictatorship.
General Buhari doesn't steal Nigeria's money. Stealing is for amateurs.
— Ayo Sogunro (@ayosogunro) December 11, 2019
He merely goes on all expense paid 'private' trips funded by Nigeria's money while his friends and family empower themselves using Nigeria's resources.
A regime of grubby autocratic nepotist kleptomaniacs.
I don't care about the issue between Aisha Buhari & Mamman Daura. They can both fuck off. Aisha should stop looking for our sympathy

meanwhile. Punch Newspaper has branded our dictator in ASO ROCK as General Buhari
Punch should be trending not the other way round
STAY WOKE PLS
So @MobilePunch think it's an insult so they decided to start calling PMB General Buhari? 😂😂😂 He has always been a General that the MAJORITY still love. Deal with it as the peoples president has more supporters and yes, he is a General. pic.twitter.com/mIkUTxxM3g

Unconsciously, people always go back to what used to work for them.

The regime of General Buhari or General Muhammadu Buhari is all he has, all he knows, and all he can fallback to.
Punch is not a wanna-be in this fight, they knew him even as a Major General back in 1983-1985 pic.twitter.com/39tyM3OMdh

Is the Buhari Government slowly becoming a dictatorship government? The ladies of #YourViewTVC applauded "The Punch newspaper," after announcing that from henceforth, they will refer to President Buhari as General Buhari. pic.twitter.com/gomLEAqajJ
