Abducted Sapele Mother, Three Children Released On N7M Ransom


 

 

After three days in captivity, Mrs Maryjane Nkechi Mene and her three young children who were abducted 2 July have been released by the kidnappers after payment of N7million ransom.

 

Mrs Mene was taking her children back home from school when they were ambushed and abducted on Shell Road fateful 2 July in one cases among many over growing insecurity in the area.

 

A family source narrated, “The kidnappers initially demanded 10 million Naira for their release. After intense negotiations, we were able to raise 7 million Naira paid to the kidnappers. They subsequently released the mother and children July 6 evening.

 

“They were really traumatized. We are grateful to God that they are back alive and reunited with the family. It has been the longest four days of our lives, but we are thankful they are home.”

The Delta State Police Command has condemned the incident with a spokesman assuring, “We are working tirelessly to ensure that those responsible for this crime are brought to justice. Kidnapping is a serious offense, and we will not rest until the perpetrators are caught.”

Kidnapping for ransom has become a recurring issue in Delta State and other parts of Nigeria with the criminals often targeting vulnerable individuals, including women and children and demanding huge ransoms for their release.
