Bayelsa Confirms Deputy Governor’s Death, Declares Three-Day Mourning For Late Ewhrudjakpo

The Bayelsa State Government on Friday formally announced the sudden and devastating death of the Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the age of 60.

In an official statement issued by the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Hon. (Mrs.) Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, the government described the news as one received “with deep regret and profound shock.”

 

According to the announcement, the Deputy Governor was active and carrying out official duties earlier in the day before he collapsed while heading to a scheduled meeting within his office. He was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, where he was later confirmed dead, marking a tragic end to a day that began ordinarily.

 

The government emphasized that the passing of Senator Ewhrudjakpo is a painful blow not only to Bayelsa State but to the nation at large. A seasoned public servant, he served as Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Senator representing Bayelsa West, and Deputy Governor since 2020, earning a reputation for competence, commitment, and distinction.

Governor Douye Diri, on behalf of the government and people of the state, extended heartfelt condolences to his widow, Her Excellency, Barr. (Mrs.) Beatrice Ewhrudjakpo, their children, the Ewhrudjakpo family, the Ofoni Federated Community, former Governor Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, and all citizens of Bayelsa.

 

In honour of the late Deputy Governor, the Governor has declared a three-day State Mourning, effective immediately. During this period, all flags are to fly at half-mast across the state.

 

The announcement concluded with a prayer for God’s comfort over the bereaved family and the entire state, affirming that Senator Ewhrudjakpo’s legacy of service will not be forgotten.
