The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, on Thursday, met with former President Goodluck Jonathan behind closed-door talks.
Obi disclosed the development in a post on his official X handle on Thursday evening, saying the meeting was held in Abuja.
The former Anambra State governor described former President Jonathan as his “very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader” in the statement.
He said the two had a “fruitful” discussion focused on the state of the nation without giving further details.
“Today in Abuja, I met with my very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan. We had a fruitful closed-door meeting and discussed the state of our dear nation,” Obi said.
The meeting between the duo is coming on the heels of rumours that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is allegedly wooing both political figures to contest the 2027 general elections against President Bola Tinubu.
Dr. Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, remains an influential voice in national affairs and across Africa, often playing a mediatory role in peace and democratic processes.
The meeting between the two prominent figures has fueled speculation about possible political realignments ahead of future elections or broader collaborations aimed at addressing national issues.
