The National Council of State has ratified and approved the appointment of Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The National Council of State has unanimously approved the appointment of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission by President Bola Tinubu.
Amupitan, who had been rumoured for the job, was unanimously endorsed by the Council of State during her meeting on Thursday.
The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the development on his official X handle on Thursday.
The new INEC Chairman hails from Kogi State. He’s 58-year-old and first North Central to be appointed into the position.
He is a professor of law and hold the prestigious Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) title.
Amupitan presented to the Council by President Tinubu during the meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday.
His appointment followed the expiration of the 10 years tenure of Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who proceeded on terminal leave on Monday.
