Ogidi, a native of Ujevwu in Udu Local Government Area, was reportedly shot dead on April 26, 2026, in an incident that has stirred outrage across the community.

Reacting in a statement on Tuesday, Dafinone described the killing as “tragic, heinous and unacceptable,” insisting that security operatives must not turn their guns on the citizens they are meant to protect.

“It is with deep shock and profound sadness that I received the news of the tragic death of Mr Oghenemine Million Ogidi. This extrajudicial killing is a heinous act that I condemn in the strongest possible terms,” he said.

The lawmaker stressed that the sanctity of human life must be upheld at all times, warning that reckless use of force by security personnel undermines public trust and the rule of law.

He called on the Inspector-General of Police and the Delta State Commissioner of Police to immediately launch a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident.

Dafinone also demanded that the officer allegedly responsible be identified and prosecuted, vowing that his office would monitor the process to ensure justice is served.

“I will actively interface with the police leadership to ensure that no stone is left unturned and that the law takes its full course,” he added.

The senator extended condolences to the Ogidi family and the Udu community, noting that no family deserves the pain of losing a loved one under such circumstances.

While urging security agencies to act swiftly, he appealed to residents to remain calm and law-abiding, cautioning against actions that could disrupt ongoing investigations.

He further charged security personnel operating in the district to adhere strictly to professional standards and rules of engagement, emphasising that their primary duty remains the protection of lives and property.
