In a heartfelt condolence message issued on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Senator Dafinone described the death of the 67-year-old as a “profound loss” not only to the Ibru family, but also to the Urhobo Nation, Delta State, and Nigeria at large.

“I received with deep shock and sadness the news of the passing of Olorogun Oskar Eyovbirere Ibru, distinguished businessman, philanthropist, and eldest son of the late Chief Michael Ibru. At 67, his sudden departure leaves a profound void,” the statement read in part.

Senator Dafinone extolled Olorogun Oscar Ibru’s sterling leadership of the Ibru Organisation, a conglomerate with interests in shipping, oil and gas, real estate, and philanthropy. He noted that Ibru’s journey from his early days at The Guardian newspaper to the pinnacle of corporate leadership was marked by “diligence, innovation, and a deep sense of responsibility to his people.”

“Beyond the boardroom, he was a man of compassion and impact… In him, the Urhobo Nation found a true ambassador—proud of his roots, unafraid to engage the modern world, and always eager to uplift others,” Dafinone said.

Offering condolences to the bereaved family, the senator extended his sympathies to Chief Wanda Ibru, the widow of the deceased, his children, and the entire Ibru family, urging them to take solace in the legacy of excellence and service he leaves behind.

“May the Almighty grant his soul eternal rest and grant the family the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss,” he concluded.
