The senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, on Tuesday, urged Muslims across Delta State and Nigeria to use the occasion of Eid-ul-Mawlid to promote peace, tolerance and national unity.
Dafinone, in a goodwill message marking the celebration, said the commemoration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad provided an opportunity for Muslims and other Nigerians to reflect on the virtues of compassion, humility, sacrifice, tolerance and service to humanity.
He urged Muslim faithful to uphold the teachings of the Prophet and translate them into actions that would promote peaceful coexistence and strengthen unity across the country.
According to him, Nigeria needs greater cohesion at a time when divisions along religious, ethnic and political lines continue to challenge national development.
He said, “Beyond our religious, ethnic and political affiliations, we are first and foremost Nigerians with a shared destiny.”
The senator called on citizens to focus more on the values that unite them, rather than differences that could deepen division and undermine peaceful coexistence.
Dafinone said the virtues associated with Prophet Muhammad remained relevant to the task of building a just, harmonious and prosperous society.
He urged Nigerians to embrace love, mutual respect and understanding, stressing that peace remained essential to sustainable development in Delta State and the country.
While congratulating Muslim faithful on the occasion, Dafinone prayed for peace, renewed hope and prosperity for the people.
He also prayed that Almighty Allah would grant Nigerian leaders wisdom, protect communities and guide the country towards greater stability and progress.
He wished Muslim faithful across Delta State and Nigeria a peaceful, joyous and spiritually rewarding Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration.
