The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Chief Festus Ochonogor, has assured that the ongoing construction of the administrative block at the College of Education, Warri, will be completed before the end of December 2026.
Ochonogor gave the assurance on Thursday, September 3, 2026, during an inspection of the project alongside the Executive Director, Projects, Olorogun Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu.
Briefing journalists after the inspection, the DESOPADEC boss said the project had been divided into three segments, comprising the physical structure, finishing works and furniture and external works.
He disclosed that the physical structure had been completed, while tiling, screeding, painting, installation of doors and windows, furniture and external works were at various stages.
Ochonogor said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had approved the engagement of two additional contractors to handle the furniture installation and external works in a bid to accelerate completion.
He said the completion timeline would not extend beyond December 2026.
“This is a fantastic job we are doing here. As you can see, the level of work done is according to specifications. This project shall go a long way in solving the inadequate office accommodation and infrastructure in this institution,” Ochonogor said.
He added that the governor was committed to providing adequate financial support to ensure the contractor completed the project within the stipulated timeframe.
The DESOPADEC chief executive also commended the contractor for the milestone achieved so far, assuring that the commission would continue to encourage the contractor to complete the project promptly.
Also speaking, the Executive Director, Projects, Olorogun Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu, commended Ochonogor for making the project a priority and ensuring its presentation to Governor Oborevwori for prompt intervention.
Okorodudu said the intervention was in line with the MORE Agenda of the Delta State Government.
“I’m elated seeing the level of work done so far. I commend our Managing Director for making sure this project received the seriousness it deserved and I thank His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his interest in this job and seeing to its completion soonest,” he said.
The Provost of the College of Education, Warri, Dr. Mrs. Fidelia Igrakpata, commended Governor Oborevwori and the DESOPADEC Board for their commitment to completing the project.
She said the administrative block would significantly reduce the pressure on office accommodation in the institution.
Igrakpata also commended the contractor for the quality of work executed so far.
According to the Head of the Department of Housing, Quantity Surveyor Williams Oyimi, the building was designed to accommodate different administrative sections of the institution.
He said the facility contained more than 15 offices for the Provost, Registrar, Deputy Provost and other principal officers.
Those who attended the inspection included Engr. Tony Okuwe, Executive Assistant to the EDP; Chief Goddy Omosor, Special Adviser to the MD/CEO; and the Chief Security Officer, Prince Garvin Ugbome, among others.
