In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by the Worldwide President of the UPU Youthwing, Activist Blessed Ughere, the body called on Urhobo youths both at home and in the diaspora to exercise restraint and responsibility in their interactions, particularly on social media platforms.

The statement comes in light of a recent confrontation involving Mr. Elvis Ekrakpoariemu Ogbevire and officers of the Ughelli Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Youthwing expressed concern over the spread of unverified claims online, warning of the potential fallout when public discourse lacks decorum, especially when it targets individuals in positions of authority.

“We remind Urhobo youths worldwide that social media posts can have significant impact. It’s essential to verify information, especially when referencing those in authority,” the statement read.

“We’re working closely with his legal representative and have taken steps to address the situation, including a visit on behalf of our Urhobo brother,” the statement disclosed.

In the same vein, the Youthwing extended gratitude to law enforcement agents, stating, “we appreciate the Ughelli Area Commander, ACP Aliyu Shaba, a respected law enforcement officer, for his service in our region. We also commend the Nigerian Police for their tireless efforts to ensure our safety.”

The statement also included a call to action for youths interested in civic responsibility: “We encourage passionate youths interested in promoting justice and the rule of law to work collaboratively with law agencies and regulators within the bounds of the law.”
