The Federal Government has secured the release of 100 pupils abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.
The development was reported on Sunday by TVC News and Channels Television, though federal authorities had yet to issue an official statement as of the time of filing this report.
Armed men had invaded the remote community on November 21, arriving on motorbikes and attacking the school at about 2am. The operation, which lasted nearly three hours, resulted in the abduction of 315 persons—including 303 students and 12 teachers.
Within the first 24 hours of the incident, about 50 pupils managed to escape and were reunited with their families, leaving 265 victims in captivity.
Details regarding the conditions of the freed pupils, the circumstances surrounding their release, and ongoing efforts to rescue the remaining captives were still unclear as of press time.
