The Member representing Ika ethnic nationality on the Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Hon. Cosmas Igbenije, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the commission’s ongoing Area Office project in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Igbenije made this known on Thursday, September 3, 2026, during an on-the-spot assessment visit to the project site.
The DESOPADEC Board member commended the contractor for returning to site and continuing work on the project, expressing confidence that the facility would be completed and put to use soon.
Speaking during the inspection, the DESOPADEC Site Engineer, Engr. Jude Adinkwu, assured Igbenije that the project would be completed on schedule and delivered to the required standard as contained in the Bill of Engineering Measurement.
Igbenije said the completion of the Area Office would bring the commission’s services closer to residents of the Ika ethnic nationality.
He said, “We cannot wait to commence engagements in this Area Office. This Office is expected to bring DESOPADEC services closer to our people in line with the Renewed Hope for M.O.R.E Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.”
The DESOPADEC board member also urged Ika students in tertiary institutions to take advantage of the ongoing DESOPADEC bursary programme by registering and applying for the financial support.
He described education as one of the most important legacies a responsible institution could provide for the younger generation.
Igbenije said investing in education remained critical to preparing students for the future and urged eligible Ika students to make use of the bursary opportunity.
It was also disclosed that Thursday’s inspection was the third time Igbenije had visited the Area Office project since his inauguration as the board member representing Ika ethnic nationality on the DESOPADEC Board.
His repeated visits, according to the statement, reflect his commitment to monitoring development projects and promoting meaningful engagements with the people of Ika ethnic nationality.
