The Ugbajo Itsekiri United States of America (USA) Incorporated has elected its first female president, Dr. (Mrs.) Mejebi Toritseju Mayor (née Otubu).
The election, held during the association’s 27th Annual National Convention in New York, marks a significant milestone in the group’s nearly three-decade history.
Delegates and members from across the United States gathered for the convention, which serves as both a cultural convergence and a platform for strategic planning on community development.
In her acceptance speech, Dr. Mayor expressed appreciation for the trust reposed in her and emphasised a leadership approach rooted in transparency, inclusivity, and collaboration.
“This is a collective mandate. Together, we will build on the vision of our founding members and take Ugbajo Itsekiri USA to an enviable height,” she said.
The new executive team includes Weyinmi Okupa (Vice President), Oduore Ojo (Secretary), Charles Jemine Omagbemi (Publicity Secretary), Pastor Dr. Utieyin Edema-Eyen (Financial Secretary), Tinuke Amajuoritse Fadairo (Assistant Secretary), and Oritsemoyogbemi Bowen (Treasurer).

Established to foster unity and support development initiatives in Delta State, Nigeria, Ugbajo Itsekiri USA has become a beacon of diaspora-led impact, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and youth empowerment as the association has consistently provided scholarships and sponsored medical outreach programmes across Warri and its environs.
The leading Itsekiri diaspora organisation in North America is also committed to cultural preservation, promotion of the Itsekiri language, customs, and identity among younger generations born outside Nigeria.
Commending the election of Dr. Mayor, an outgoing executive noted that the outcome reflects “a maturing organisation that values competence and vision above all else.”
