The chairman of Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Ramson Onoyake has dismissed social media reports that curfew has been imposed in Effurun, the commercial centre of the council.
Some residents of the area had alleged that curfew was imposed owing to the rising tension in area over the frequent clashes between APC and PDP youths in the area.
Sources said the curfew was imposed for the hours of 6pm to 7pm daily until normalcy returned the crisis prone community.

Onoyake, who, however, spoke with WARRI TODAY that there was iota of truth in the rumour.

The council Chairman revealed that a 24-hour combined team of security operatives have been drafted to the area to douse the crisis.

He said, ” It’s total false that curfew has been imposed in Effurun or in the entire Uvwie council. As we speak, people are going about their normal duties and businesses.

“What we have done is that we have increase security men  in the council. At the moment everywhere is calm and we hope it continues. I don’t know where this rumour is coming from.

“I would like to say that the people and residents of Uvwie should remain calm while the security agents are doing their job. I want to assure our people that for those behind this dastard act, the law must surely take it course.”
