As the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) approaches its much-anticipated election on 5th December 2025, the moment has come for renewal, a moment to restore the honour, unity, and vibrancy that once defined the Urhobo Nation.
The time has come to lift UPU from its current diminished state to a glorious height reminiscent of the golden era of Chief Omarohwovo Okkoro, Chief Mukoro Mowoe, Chief Ovie Mariere, Chief John Okpodu, Chief Jabin Obahor, Chief T.E.A. Salubi, the Okumagbas, the Dafinone, the Ibrus other great patriots whose selfless devotion gave Urhobo pride of place in Nigeria’s history.
This is not just an election, it is a movement to Make Urhobo Great Again (MUGA). It is a collective awakening, a clarion call to all who love Urhobo to unite and rebuild our heritage with dignity, purpose, and pride.
A Movement Rooted in Patriotism
MUGA is a movement born out of love – love for Urhobo’s people, culture, and destiny. It calls on all Urhobo sons and daughters, both at home and abroad, to rise above divisions and reclaim the greatness of our common identity.
This is a call to our respected Ovies (Kings), political leaders, technocrats, business moguls, intellectuals, and youths to stand behind a team of tested, trusted, and selfless leaders – men and women of integrity who embody the values of service, accountability, and unity.

To achieve this renewal, a team of distinguished Urhobo personalities has been carefully selected, individuals of unblemished character, professional excellence, and deep commitment to Urhobo progress. Together, they represent the strength and diversity of the Urhobo Nation.

1. President-General (PG) – Chief Simeon Ohwofa:
A seasoned community leader and statesman with an unwavering commitment to unity and cultural preservation.
2. 1st Deputy President-General – Barr. Mike Igini:
Renowned legal luminary, public servant, and advocate for transparency and justice.
3. 2nd Deputy President-General – Mr. Abraham Ogbodo:
Veteran journalist and respected voice of reason, known for integrity and intellectual depth.

5. Secretary-General – Mr. Patrick Origho (Rtd. Permanent Secretary)
Distinguished administrator with a legacy of excellence in public service and governance.
6. Assistant Secretary-General – Dr. Benson Uwheru
Academic and community mobiliser, passionate about youth empowerment and organisational development.
7. Publicity Secretary – Prof. Sunny Awhefeada
Celebrated scholar and public intellectual dedicated to promoting Urhobo culture, literature, and enlightenment.
8. Treasurer – Prof. Dicta Ogisi
Eminent academic and financial management expert known for integrity and fiscal prudence.
9. Financial Secretary – Prof. Rose Aziza
Distinguished linguist and educationist, committed to the preservation and promotion of the Urhobo language and identity.
10. Legal Adviser – Dr. Brown Umukoro
Legal scholar and advocate for justice, equity, and the rule of law.
11. Assistant Publicity Secretary – Chief Veronica Ajuebon
Grassroots mobiliser and cultural promoter with strong community ties.
12. Auditor – Mr. Matthew Ogagavworia
Experienced auditor with a track record of transparency and accountability.
