Mulade Commends Oborevwori’s Infrastructural Strides, Seeks Riverine Development in 2026 Budget

A Delta State-born peace and development advocate, Comrade (Dr.) Sheriff Mulade, has lauded the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his administration’s ongoing infrastructural revolution across the state, describing it as “commendable and people-focused.”

Mulade, who made the commendation in a statement on Wednesday, said the governor’s developmental efforts have won the admiration of Deltans irrespective of political affiliation, particularly his bold engagement of Julius Berger Plc for major projects.

“Let me specifically appreciate the governor once again for using construction giant Julius Berger Plc for the three flyovers situated in Uvwie Local Government Area around the Warri axis, and the proposed Ughelli and Agbor flyovers to ease traffic flow in those areas,” he said.

He noted that the ongoing stormwater drainage works and several road projects across the state reflect the governor’s commitment to improving infrastructure and living standards in Delta.

However, the activist appealed to the governor to extend the same development attention to riverine communities, especially those inhabited by the Ijaw and Itsekiri ethnic groups, who he said contribute significantly to the state’s economic strength through oil, gas, and marine resources.

“It is pertinent to remind the governor that Ijaw and Itsekiri areas contribute over 60 percent of the state economy through oil and gas resources and the blue economy. Yet, there are no significant projects in these areas worthy of note despite their huge contributions to the state’s revenue,” Mulade said.

He called on the state government to prioritize critical projects in the 2026 budget, such as the Ayakoromo Bridge, Torugbene-Ojobo Road Project, and the Omadino-Okerenkoko-Kokodiagbene-Escravos Road, which he said are vital for economic integration and coastal connectivity.

“These areas deserve development beyond election seasons. The riverine people are tired of one or two-kilometre concrete walkways being regarded as roads. We need real road networks that connect coastal areas to the upland for economic viability and growth,” he added.

Mulade further advised that reputable firms like Julius Berger be engaged to execute riverine projects for quality and durability, noting that such an approach would further immortalize Governor Oborevwori’s name in the hearts of the people.

“The governor has performed excellently in terms of roads and drainages. Extending this gesture to the riverine areas will make him a historic leader, just like former Governor James Ibori, who delivered the Bomadi and Omadino bridges linking the upland to the riverine communities,” he stated.
