Mulade Urges Warri Ethnic Groups To Shun Crisis, Embrace Unity, Seeks Support For Oborevwori

Popular peace and development advocate, Comrade (Dr.) Sheriff Mulade, has appealed to ethnic groups in Warri Federal Constituency – particularly the Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo nationalities – to bury the hatchet, reject ethnic division, and embrace lasting peace in the interest of development.

Dr. Mulade, who holds the traditional title of Ibe-Serimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, gave the charge while addressing stakeholders at an event marking the 2025 International Day of Peace, themed: “Act Now for a Peaceful World.”

He said the annual observance was a time for sober reflection and renewed commitment to building bridges across ethnic and communal lines.

“Peace is not just a dream. It is a necessity,” Mulade said. “Let us reflect on our roles — both as individuals and communities — in fostering peaceful coexistence and sustainable development.”

Speaking strongly on the need to avoid a repeat of past ethnic clashes in Warri, Dr. Mulade declared that the era of ethnic-fueled violence must end permanently, stressing that there is no open ticket for crisis beyond 2031 in Warri Federal Constituency.

“Warri needs permanent peace more than elections and voters,” he said, adding that “Only peace can attract investors, create employment, and bring the true beauty of development to our people.”

He urged traditional rulers, youth leaders, and political stakeholders across Delta State — including Urhobo, Ijaw, Itsekiri, Isoko, and Anioma groups — to resist divide-and-rule tactics often employed by crisis merchants and political infiltrators.

Dr. Mulade also used the platform to call for maximum support for the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, noting that sustained peace would enable the delivery of more democratic dividends to Deltans.

“We must all cooperate with His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori. Governance thrives in peace, not chaos. Let’s give him the needed support to develop our state,” he said.

The Gbaramatu-born activist, who is also a leading voice in environmental and human rights advocacy, thanked Nigerians for joining the global community to mark the Peace Day.

“Together, we can make a difference. Let us act now to promote peace, justice, and equality, and build a world where everyone can live with dignity and respect,” he stated.

Mulade emphasized that the true beauty of Warri lies not in its oil wealth, but in its diverse people living in harmony.
