Nigeria has lost one of its serving lawmakers as Senator Okey Ezea, representing Enugu North Senatorial District under the Labour Party (LP), has reportedly died in the United Kingdom.

 

The news was confirmed in Abuja by two of his colleagues in the National Assembly—Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC, Abia North) and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central).

 

In an emotional condolence message, former Senate Chief Whip, Orji Kalu, said he received the news with “profound shock and deep sorrow.”

 

Calling the late lawmaker “my dear brother and colleague,” Kalu described Ezea as a man of humility, integrity and steadfast faith.

 

“Our friendship went beyond the chambers of the Senate. As Catholics, we often worshipped together in the same chapel. Those quiet moments of prayer remain etched in my heart.”

 

Kalu said the Senate had lost “a principled voice” and extended condolences to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, the people of Nsukka, and Ezea’s family.

“Your husband, father and brother was a noble man whose legacy of service and faith will continue to shine,” he said.

 

 

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan also mourned Ezea in a Facebook post, describing him as “a good man, wise and gentle.”

 

“Your prayers kept me going through my darkest moments. I will miss you in chambers,” she wrote.

 

She extended condolences to his constituents, saying both Enugu North and Kogi Central mourn a dedicated public servant.
