A Senior Special Adviser to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State on Security Matters, Mr Omasan Mabiaku and the Save Sapele Group (SSG) on Tuesday led hundreds of youths to protest against the activities of internet fraudsters also known as Yahoo and ritual related killings in the town.
The protest is coming on the heels of the repeated raiding of Sapele by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the spate ritual killings in the area.
Tens of suspected internet fraudsters including those involved in ‘Yahoo Plus’ have been arrested by men of the anti-graft agency in Sapele.

Also, no fewer than three girls including two found dead in hotels and one dumped along the Ogorode road have reportedly loss their lives to ritual related killings in the town.
Irked by the development, the protesters took to major streets of Sapele to demand an immediate end to ritual killings and activities of Yahoo Boys in the ancient town.
The protesters vowed to resist plot by criminal minded individuals to drag the good and resilient spirit, Sapele is known for, into the mud, and warning that they will no longer watch and allow anyone to give the city a bad name.
Mabiaku told newsmen during the protest that Sapele from time immemorial is known for hardwork and its hospitality, and not for killings and cybercrime.
Governor Okowa SSA explained that, “three days ago some Yahoo boys went round the streets of sapele to protest against their arrest by EFCC, but we are not in support of Yahoo. We condemn it.
“Sapele is known for peace and a very peaceful town before now but today we hear about killings, stealing and kidnapping. We condemn of them. That’s not the spirit Sapele is known for.”
On the reason for the protest, Mabiaku said, “We came out to make the world know that Sapele is not known for violence, for Cybercrime or Yahoo Yahoo.
“We are against Yahoo because they are the people killing our girls for ritual purposes. Some of the boys involved in this crimes are not from this town, Sapele is like a hiding place for them.”

He vowed to work of with police operatives to ensure that criminal elements in the city are flushed out and prosecuted by law enforcement agencies.
Also speaking, the Secretary-General of Save Sapele Group, Mr Sako Ese, condemned in strong terms the rising cases of ritual killings in the town.
Ese said Sapele is not a city known for cybercrime, ritual killings, armed robbery and other social vices which are threatening the once peaceful town.
According to him, “The deaths are getting too much and this has to stop. We are protesting against the killers because enough is enough, we want peace to be restored to sapele, so that we can live like brothers and sisters.”
