Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has praised the leadership quality and sense of patriotism of the oldest king in the state and chairman of Urhobo Traditional Rulers Forum, His Royal Majesty, Royal Canon, Ovie Ogbon Ogoni-Oghoro 1, Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom for his rare accomplishments.

Ohworode of Olomu clocks 102 years on Sunday. He is believed to be the oldest traditional ruler in Nigeria.

At 102, the revered monarch still read and walks without glasses and aid.

Okowa, in a statement signed by Chief Press Secretary, Charles Aniagwu, on Sunday, praised the monarch for attaining 102 years, saying that Ohworode remains a role model to many Nigerians for his outstanding leadership and accomplishments.

According to him, “On behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta State, I felicitate with your Royal Majesty, Ovie R. L. Ogbon Ogoni, Olomu 1, the Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom, on the occasion of your glorious centenary birthday and 31st anniversary celebration of your ascension to the ancient throne of your forefathers.

“In the last 31 years on the throne, His Royal Majesty, has demonstrated exemplary leadership by living above board, while remaining as the rallying point and inspiration for his subjects, adding “As a custodian of culture and tradition, the Ohworode has played significant roles in the promotion of harmony among the Olomu kingdom, the Urhobo nation and Deltans in general.

“As Chairman of Urhobo Traditional Rulers, His Majesty has also contributed immensely to the socio-cultural cooperation, communal living and peaceful co-existence among the Urhobo and other ethnic groups in the state”

The governor thanked the monarch for continually offering useful advises to him which in turn has helped deepen his administration’s efforts in developing the state.

“The ideals of uncommon patriotism, unparalleled humility and sterling leadership qualities which you epitomize are worthy traits that will continue to inspire us in our quest to build a stronger Delta,” Governor Okowa stated.
