Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has nominated businessman and politician, Mr. Martin Anayochukwu Oli, as a commissioner-designate, a move the government said reflects its commitment to inclusive governance.
The nomination was announced in a government statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, who said Oli’s name would be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
Oli, an indigene of Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State, is a businessman and political figure who has lived and worked in Edo State. He is known within the state’s Igbo community for his involvement in community development and grassroots initiatives.
According to the state government, the nomination forms part of Governor Okpebholo’s efforts to broaden participation in governance by bringing individuals with diverse backgrounds and experience into the state executive council.
The government said Oli has built a reputation in the private sector through his entrepreneurial activities and has supported initiatives aimed at promoting social and economic development.
It also described him as a prominent leader within the Igbo community in Edo State whose contributions have fostered community engagement and development.
If confirmed by the Edo State House of Assembly, Oli will join the State Executive Council as one of Governor Okpebholo’s commissioners.
The nomination comes weeks after the governor indicated his intention to expand the composition of his cabinet as part of efforts to strengthen service delivery across key sectors of the state’s economy.
