Ozoro Festival: Delta Attorney General, Police Meet, To Fast-Track Investigation, Prosecution

The Delta State Government has stepped up efforts to ensure justice for victims of the recent Ozoro festival who were reportedly molested and sexually assaulted, as the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ekemejero Ohwovoriole (SAN), on Monday, met with the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, in Asaba.

The meeting, held at the State Police Headquarters, brought together top officials from the Ministry of Justice and the Delta State Police Command in what officials described as a strategic move to strengthen collaboration on the ongoing investigation.

In a statement issued on Monday after the meeting, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the meeting was attended by top management of the State Ministry Justice and the State Police Management.

Speaking during the visit, the Attorney-General commended the police for their swift response in restoring calm to Ozoro following the incident, which had sparked public concern across the country.

He reaffirmed the Delta State Government’s commitment to supporting law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.

 

Ohwovoriole stressed that diligent prosecution of suspects would serve as a deterrent to others and help reinforce public confidence in the justice system.

“In a continuous effort to ensure diligent investigation into the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Police Command, CP Aina Adesola, psc today 23rd March, 2026 received a delegation from the office of the Attorney-General of the State at the State Headquarters, Asaba.

“The Delegation was led by the Attorney-General himself, Mr Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN and also had in attendance members of the Delta State Command management team.

“The Attorney General on behalf of the State appreciated the Police leadership for their swift response in ensuring sanity was restored in Ozoro after the ugly incident which sparked a lot of public outcry and gave assurances of the State Government to support the Police and ensure diligent prosecution of those found culpable to serve as deterrence to other and ensure justice is served”, Ohwovoriole added.

In his response, CP Aina Adesola appreciated the Attorney-General and the state government for their support, noting that the Command had taken proactive steps to stabilize the situation in Ozoro.

 

He disclosed that he had personally visited the community to engage key stakeholders as part of efforts to maintain peace.

The police boss assured that the investigation into the incident is ongoing and that those found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He further reiterated the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order across the state, assuring residents that measures have been put in place to prevent a recurrence.

The Delta State Police Command also urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
