A Bayelsa State High Court on Monday arraigned George Idumange, popularly known as Pastor Brandy, and four others over the alleged murder of 42-year-old estate agent, Richard Ekpebu.
Ekpebu was reportedly killed on July 24, 2025, following a land deal dispute, with his body later discovered in a bush along the New Otuoke Road near Bayelsa Palm.
The suspects were arraigned after a coordinated investigation by the police tactical team, Operation Puff Adder, led by Chris Nwaogbo, which led to their arrest across Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Yenagoa.
Those charged alongside Idumange include his girlfriend, Victory Bernard, 23; Ekiamene Amaoniye, also known as “Cash Money”; Ibo Imaremi Gold, 34; and Henry Igwe, 35.
The defendants are facing a 12-count charge bordering on conspiracy, murder, illegal possession of firearms, armed robbery, and destruction of evidence.
A sixth accused, Queen Felix, said to be the sister of the principal suspect, was absent in court. The prosecution told the court she had earlier been granted administrative bail on health grounds and may be tried separately on a forgery charge.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty when the charges were read.
Presiding over the matter, Justice Raphael Ajuwa ordered that the accused persons be remanded at the Okaka Medium Correctional Centre pending trial after hearing submissions from counsel.
The Director of Public Prosecution, Peretimi Judith Peterside, informed the court that the state has lined up 20 witnesses and is ready to proceed with trial.
The case was adjourned to April 14, 15 and 16 for hearing.
