President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday announced the rescue of 38 abducted worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State, and 51 students earlier kidnapped from a Catholic school in Niger State, assuring Nigerians that his administration will not relent in its ongoing nationwide security operations.
In a statement personally signed by him, the President said he cancelled his scheduled trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa to directly coordinate security efforts at home, following a surge in abductions across parts of the country.
“You will recall that I cancelled my trip to the G20 summit in South Africa to enable me coordinate the security efforts at home,” Tinubu said.
He applauded the military, police and other security agencies for the “tireless efforts” that led to the operation which brought the 38 Kwara worshippers home safely.
“I am equally happy that 51 out of the missing students of the Catholic School in Niger State have been recovered,” he added.
Tinubu said he is receiving continuous updates from the frontline commanders and is monitoring developments across all hotspots in the country.
“Let me be clear: I will not relent. Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety — and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people,” the President affirmed.
He assured citizens that ongoing rescue efforts would continue until all remaining victims are safely returned and security threats significantly degraded.
