Rep Waive Leads Powerful Delegation To Pay Homage To Ovie Of Udu Kingdom, Pledges To Attract Devt To Udu

In a vibrant display of culture, unity, and statesmanship, the member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Revd Francis Ejiroghene Waive, led a distinguished delegation on a grand homage visit to the newly installed Ovie of Udu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Engr. Mike Ogheneovo Orugbo, Okporua I.

The visit, which took place on Sunday at the monarch’s temporary palace, marked the first official homage by a federal legislator to the new king and was celebrated in a carnival-like atmosphere, rich in traditional pageantry and cultural splendor. The revered Udje dance troupe from Aladja brought the grounds to life with mesmerizing performances, captivating guests and residents alike.

Rt. Hon. Waive, whose maternal roots trace back to Otor-Udu—the political and traditional capital of the kingdom—arrived with a retinue of political dignitaries, religious leaders, community stalwarts, and jubilant supporters. The spectacle of his entrance and the warm reception underscored the deep connection between the legislator and the people of Udu.

In his address, Hon. Waive extolled the peaceful ascension and sterling reputation of His Majesty, describing him as a monarch of distinction and national repute. “Udu now has a true king,” he declared, as he pledged total allegiance to the reign of HRM Orugbo and reaffirmed his commitment to the progress of Udu Kingdom.

The lawmaker vowed to play a key role in the upcoming official presentation of the Staff of Office and also support traditional rites honoring the late monarch. Hon. Waive used the occasion to highlight his numerous developmental strides in Udu, notably the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ovwian—an achievement credited to his legislative acumen.

He also introduced the newly appointed pioneer Medical Director of FMC Ovwian, Chief Prof. Kingsley Akaba, a proud son of Udu, to the monarch.

In his response, HRM Engr. Mike Orugbo expressed heartfelt appreciation for the visit and lauded Hon. Waive’s achievements and respect for tradition. “You are indeed a son of the soil,” the king affirmed, pledging his full support for the lawmaker’s continued efforts in service to Udu people.

The event concluded with the exchange of symbolic gifts and royal blessings, followed by a vibrant reception.

Speaking after the ceremony, Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, hailed the homage visit as a commendable gesture that fosters synergy between traditional and political institutions. He praised Hon. Waive as a “rare breed in politics” whose performance in the National Assembly is marked by visible and impactful results.

Gabriel Kpagban, and Hon. Justice Iyasere, former Vice Chairman of Udu LGA.

Also present were Sir Chief Francis Orogun, Revd. D.P.O Sotu, Prof. Lucky Ogodo, Chief Franks Ugen, Sir Isaiah Kekeje, Chief John Olomu, Hon. Alex Kemeruvwe, Hon. David Rheriobore, Barr. Pat Willie, members of the Aladja Grammar School Old Students Association, and many others who graced the historic occasion.
