The Niger Delta Entrepreneurship and Economy Network (NEED) has warmly congratulated the newly appointed members of the South-South Development Commission, commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for fulfilling his promise to establish the much-anticipated body aimed at transforming the region.
In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Comrade Classics Oke Oteri, NEED described the appointments as a critical turning point for the South-South, a region rich in resources yet plagued by longstanding issues of poverty, underdevelopment, and insecurity.
NEED emphasised the commission’s powerful potential to address these challenges and urged its members to act decisively and innovatively. “This is not the time for business as usual,” the statement noted.
Comrade Oteri, “We encourage the commission to think outside the box, work with integrity, and prioritize solutions that will bring real, lasting change.
“Among its key recommendations, NEED called on the commission to: foster an enabling environment for entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized businesses to grow and flourish.
“Design and implement strategies to combat poverty and youth restiveness.
“Roll out impactful programs that support sustainable economic development and social advancement”
The group underlined that while previous interventions have fallen short, the current momentum offers a unique chance to unlock the South-South’s full potential and improve the quality of life for its people.
“This commission has the opportunity to rewrite the story of the South-South,” Comrade Oteri stated. “By working together with all stakeholders and maintaining a focus on results, we can build a region that reflects the dreams and aspirations of its people”, the group added.
NEED reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the commission’s work and expressed hope that this new chapter would bring hope, prosperity, and enduring peace to the region.
