Alas! The award of the world’s greatest president must surely go to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Although he has a remarkable leadership history, I can’t quite fathom why people keep complaining about the country’s economic miracles. Isn’t soaring food prices, expensive fuel, shrinking purchasing power, and overall poverty in the country supposed to make everyone grateful?
As another election season is approaching, perhaps I should remind Nigerians of the wonders of this era.
On May 29, 2023, President Tinubu, in his inaugural speech, announced the removal of the fuel subsidy, which brought a tremendous change to the cost of living, as prices of foodstuffs and other indices of the nation’s economy became very “AFFORDABLE,” to the point that people have to empty their monthly salaries to purchase basic household items.
Ironically, the prices of fuel also “REDUCED” drastically that citizens have to abandon their cars and use public transportation. The Naira currency also appreciated that #1 equated to $1- even our economists never saw this coming. The leadership was so good that the citizens were compelled to leave their daily struggles to protest against the successful development, while the National Grid became too excited that it collapsed at least 21 times since his administration, leaving most of the citizens in darkness.
Meanwhile, in 2025, the country became so peaceful that bandits became bored and abducted 25 students in Kebbi State, 303 students and 12 teachers in Niger State, as well as ambushing and killing 40 farmers in Dumba, Kukawa Local Government Area, Borno State, maybe as part of a nationwide game of “hide and seek” with the authorities.
Lest I forget, while still playing with the authorities, the bandits also attacked Churches in Kwara State, killing and abducting worshippers, and then people still say our dear president has not done us well?
I have seen many Nigerians show their appreciation for his “good works” by coming out in their numbers while not having what to eat in their homes, as a form of solidarity to campaign in 2025 before the 2027 elections. Iconic!
Should we talk about 2026? In another remarkable achievement for security, 39 children and 7 teachers were reportedly abducted on the 15th of May 2026 in Oyo State; meanwhile Children’s Day was still celebrated across the country.
Will Nigerians ever get to the Promised Land, or are we destined to perish before we get there? Are we still blinded by tribalism and what we will hope to gain in a corrupt system, or we truly want change? This we will find out in 2027.
