President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power following the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu.
The nomination was conveyed to the Senate on Thursday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions.
Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is a fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across the public and private sectors.
Prior to his nomination, he served as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he coordinated bilateral development efforts between Nigeria and China.
He is also a former Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation, advising both government and private sector organisations.
The Presidency said the nomination is aimed at strengthening ongoing reforms in the power sector, improving grid stability, and attracting sustainable investments in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Tegbe is also credited with experience in regulatory and institutional reforms involving key agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
His nomination comes at a critical time as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to address challenges in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Tegbe, if confirmed by the Senate, would leverage his experience to drive reforms and improve power supply across the country.
