Prominent Niger Delta leader and chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has mourned former Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan over his passing.
Tompolo highlighted Uduaghan’s contributions to peace efforts in the Niger Delta and support for initiatives that shaped the region’s security landscape.
He stated this on Monday in a statement signed by his media consultant, Dr Paul Bebenimibo.
Uduaghan, a former Governor of Delta State from 2007 to 2015, passed on Monday in Abuja at 71.
Tompolo said the news of Uduaghan’s death came as a rude shock, expressing sadness over the loss of the former governor, whose tenure coincided with a critical period in the Niger Delta’s struggle with militancy and insecurity.
He recalled Uduaghan’s support for the Presidential Amnesty Programme and the pipeline surveillance initiative awarded during the administrations of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Ibe-Ebidouwei of Ijaw Nation said the former governor’s role during that period remained a significant part of his record, particularly as the region pursued peace and stability amid security challenges.
“High Chief Ekpemupolo received the news of the death of the Former two term Governor of the State with sadness, that he was not expecting this sad news at this time.
“Tompolo recalled the role of the Former Governor during the days of militancy in the Niger Delta; how the Former Governor supported the Presidential Amnesty Programme and the pipeline surveillance job awarded during the time of Late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and former President Goodluck Jonathan”, the statement
Tompolo said the late governor would be greatly missed, offering prayers for his family and others affected by his death.
He asked God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
