The Urhobo Renaissance Society (URS) has congratulated Professor Sunny Awhefeada on his appointment as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Southern Delta University, Ozoro, in Delta State.
In a congratulatory letter dated March 5, 2026, and signed by its President, Joseph Abugu (SAN), and General Secretary, John Uwa, the group described Awhefeada’s appointment as well-deserved and reflective of his outstanding academic achievements and leadership qualities.
The society noted that his emergence as Vice-Chancellor was a testament to his dedication to scholarship and administrative excellence.
According to the group, Awhefeada had consistently demonstrated intellectual depth and leadership capacity throughout his academic career, particularly during his tenure as Dean of the Postgraduate School at Delta State University, Abraka.
The URS also referenced his recent inaugural lecture at the university, which it said highlighted his academic brilliance and vision for higher education.
“We are thrilled that your expertise and vision have been recognised by the Delta State Government, and we have no doubt that you will steer Southern Delta University towards greater heights,” the letter read.
The society further expressed pride in Awhefeada as a prominent member of the organisation, stating that it looked forward to his continued contributions to the advancement of the group and the development of the Urhobo nation.
While wishing him a successful tenure, the URS urged the new Vice-Chancellor to sustain the ideals of excellence, innovation and academic growth in the institution.
