Warri Township Stadium Ready For Commissioning Soon, Says Gov Oborevwori

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori says the Warri Township Stadium, which is undergoing reconstruction works, will soon be ready for commissioning and opening to sporting activities.

The project, which is nearing completion, is one of Governor Oborevwori’s signature projects in his avowed efforts to restore the city’s old glory.

 

He spoke on Thursday after receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 Warri International Film Festival and awards ceremony held in Warri for developmental drive in the city and Delta as whole.

 

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Rural Roads and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, expressed his administration’s commitment to infrastructural rebirth and development of new projects in the city and other parts of the state.

 

Oborevwori said sports and entertainment remain his administration’s cornerstones, assuring that he would continue to invest in both sectors to harness the talents of Delta youths.

He recalled how Delta in the past produced some of the first generation of famous Nigerian entertainers and sports professionals, vowing to ensure Warri retains its place in the country’s entertainment industry.

 

According to him, “For us in this administration, the Warri International Film Festival is not just to showcase films, it is totally in consonance with the administration’s goal to revive Warri and take it to greater heights.”

 

Noting the national and diaspora waves of entertainment and sport talents that have emerged from the city, he stated: “This festival speaks to the essence of having to take advantage of that industry. Today, Delta is number one on that table.”

 

“In not too distant time, the government will be here to commission the stadium. We are taking steps to stem flooding…” the governor, while listing other developmental projects such as bridges within the twin Warri and Effurun (in Uvwie) cities, added.

Earlier in his remark, the organiser of the firm festival, Mr. Alex Eyengho, noted that the award was in recognition of the governor’s giant strides in infrastructure across the state, particularly in Warri.

 

Among dignitaries at the event were the member representing  Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi and ex-Executive Director, Projects, Niger Delta Development Commission, Engr. Tuoyo Omatsuli.
