Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has vowed to deliver the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that he does not need a position in the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council to achieve the feat.
Wike made the declaration while dismissing reports that he was lobbying to become the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 election.
The former Rivers State governor, through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, described the reports as false and said he had not discussed the leadership or membership of the proposed campaign council with anyone.
The minister said his commitment to Tinubu’s re-election remained unwavering, stressing that his priority was to contribute to the President’s electoral success in both Rivers and the FCT.
Wike said he was currently outside Nigeria, resting after spending more than 30 days commissioning projects, flagging off new ones and inspecting ongoing projects in the FCT, particularly those scheduled for commissioning in December and January.
He said upon his return, he would refocus on delivering on his administration’s mandate in line with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda while working to strengthen the President’s electoral fortunes.
“I do not need to be the DG or even member of the Presidential Campaign Council of Mr President’s political party to contribute my quota by ensuring that he wins handsomely in Rivers State and the FCT.”
The declaration comes amid reports that several APC chieftains and government officials were either lobbying for or being considered for the campaign council’s top position.
Wike, who governed Rivers State from 2015 to 2023, has remained one of the prominent political figures outside the APC backing Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
