As efforts are being geared toward the fight against the alarming rate of drug abuse, Matrix Energy Group and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have urged Nigerians, particularly youths, to stay away from drugs.
Matrix Energy and NDLEA made the call as part of activities marking this year’s United Nation’s Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking organised to sensitise residents of Warri, Delta State, against the danger of drug abuse.
The event which was titled; “The evidence is clear: Invest in prevention” was attended by youth bodies, professional organisations, law enforcement officers and other agencies to draw awareness to the danger of drugs.
The Commander of Narcotics, NDLEA at the Nigerian Ports Authority, Warri , Ms Nnenna Okoebor, said drug and substance abuse were destructive to health.
“The Command has been working with Stakeholders to ensure Delta Ports and it’s environs as well as the riverine communities are safe from the dangers of drug and substance abuse “, she said.
“Drugs are abused when the use is not medically necessary or used excessively. It is also an abuse when prohibited drugs and substance are consumed . They can all cause health problems and create social disorders “, she stressed.
The Terminal Manager of Matrix Energy, Mr Francis Ibe in his remarks commended NDLEA for its sensitization programme across the state , assuring that his firm would continue to support the campaign against abuse of drug.
The Manager Delta Port, Warri , Mr Sa’adu Mohammed , Ms Rume Esi of Amazing Grace foundation, Pastor Evans Akpocha of Founder Treno foundation and others who also spoke harped on the dangers of drug and substance abuse, urging parents and guardians to be actively involved in effort to curb abuse among youths.
