The Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom in Delta State, His Royal Majesty Macaulay Popo Ovbagbedia, Uhurhie-Osadjere II, is dead.
Uhurhie-Osadjere II reportedly joined his ancestors at 92 over two years after being crowned as the traditional ruler of the most influential Kingdom in Delta.
The transition of the traditional ruler, who ascend the throne on May 20, 2023, was officially announced at the palace of the monarch at Ovwor-Olomu town months after the passage of the king.
Otota of the Ancient Olomu kingdom and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Olorogun Albert Akpomudje, (SAN), made the announcement on Saturday signifying a moment of mourning in Olomu.
Akpomudje, flanked by Olomu traditional council of chiefs and members of the royal family, however declared one month period across Olomu communities.
The announcement was followed by 21 canon shots salute to the departed monarch and announcement barring all forms of celebrations including traditional marriages and burials across Olomu.
With the announcement, all markets in the kingdom remain closed, no burial and marriage celebration, as stores are only permitted to be open for partial transactions.
Also, as part of the mourning process, the kingdom has declared a one month mourning period with effects from July 12, to August 12, 2025 and all Olomu kingdom Chiefs are directed to wear ban on their left hands and not to put on the traditional Olomu chieftancy red cap in honor of the late monarch.
The departed monarch was a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police and grandson of His Majesty, Ovedje Osadjere 1 who reigned between 1924- 1949 as Ohworode of Olomu.
