A fresh crisis has rocked the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State following the suspension of 10 members in Agbarha Ward, Ughelli North Local Government Area over alleged anti-party activities and gross misconduct.
The ward leadership announced the suspension on Monday, citing violations of party rules, factionalisation, and acts capable of destabilising the party structure ahead of future political engagements.
Those suspended include Chief Surv. Terry Noah, Barr. Charles Oniyere, Chief Lucky Ofomukoro (newly elected APC Ughelli North chairman), Chief Alfred Onavwa, Chief Bestman Itive, Obus Sylvester Emoefe, Christopher Imoninu, Murphy Ohwogaga, Hon. Peace Emoefe, and Chief Christabel Obiuwevbi.
The party accused the affected members of disobedience to directives, spreading misinformation, tampering with internal democratic processes, and allegedly altering delegates’ lists.
In a strongly worded resolution dated March 30, 2026 and signed by its ward chairman, Mr. Morrison Aruoture, the ward executives warned party faithful to steer clear of the suspended individuals, declaring that their actions had “caused division, acrimony, and undermined party cohesion.”
The development, however, took a dramatic turn as the ward leadership also dismissed the purported suspension of key party figures, describing it as illegal and baseless.
Among those cleared were Chief Dr. Ominimini Christopher Obiuwevbi, a prominent party leader in the ward, Chief David Ohwoekevwo, a former ward chairman, and Mr. Morrison Aruoture, the incumbent ward chairman.
The statement described the earlier suspension claims against the trio as the handiwork of “impostors,” alleging that some former PDP ward executives who recently defected to the APC unlawfully assumed leadership positions within the ward.
According to the statement, the defectors had opposed the APC during the 2023 general elections and only joined the party after its victory.
The leadership further alleged that the group had refused to integrate into the existing party structure, instead creating parallel leadership and fueling internal strife.
Highlighting his credentials, the ward executives praised Obiuwevbi’s role in the 2023 elections, noting that he served as a key campaign coordinator across Delta Central Senatorial District and played strategic roles in collation processes that secured victories for APC candidates.
They also commended Ohwoekevwo for steering the party through the elections as ward chairman and described Aruoture as a committed grassroots mobiliser who emerged as chairman in the 2026 ward congress.
The statement questioned the legitimacy of the defectors’ actions, asking rhetorically, “Can a tenant issue a quit notice to a landlord?”
The ward executives maintained that the suspension of the 10 members stands, urging the public and party loyalists to disregard any contrary claims.
The crisis underscores growing factional tensions within the APC in Delta State, raising concerns over unity within the party at the grassroots level.
