Amnesty: Ex-Militants Ask President Tinubu, Ribadu To Reappoint Idiomu As Administrator, Demand Arrest Of Protesters

Major General Barry Ndiomu

The leadership of Second Phase of the Presidential Amnesty Programme has appealed to President Bola to reappoint the current Interim Administrator, Major General Barry Ndiomu (rtd), to continue as the head of the amnesty body.

The former militants also passed a vote of confidence on Ndiomu and National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, saying their leadership styles have contributed to deepening the peace in the Niger Delta region.

National Secretary, Second Phase, ‘Gen’ Clement Wodo, who spoke with journalists, described those planning to protest against the reappointment of Ndiomu as enemies of the region and economic growth of the nation.

Wodo stated that Ndiomu through his leadership style ensure leaderships of the phases in the amnesty were carried along in decision making by the presidential Amnesty Programme.

He urged President Tinubu and Ribadu to reappoint Ndiomu to sanitise the amnesty office to actualise its establishment mandate.

The Second Phase leadership, however, described as unwarranted plots by selfish individuals in the region to sponsor protests against General Ndiomu to stop his reappointment by Mr President.

Wodo called on the Nigeria Police Force and other sister agencies to arrest anyone protest the “good intentions of the Ndiomu-led amnesty office”.

“We, the second phase leaders and critical stakeholders in Niger Delta, we have more confidence in Ndiomu than any other person as regarding the running of the Presidential Amnesty Programme because Maj. Gen Barry Tariye Ndiomu (Rtd) is a man that knows how to handle the office.

With his ideas of fighting fraud in the programme and bringing new ideas to drive the programme to a better stage and benefit of beneficiaries and the Niger Delta people.

“If you look at all these groups that want to go for protest, these people are not original beneficiaries of this programme. They are being sponsored by people.

“Therefore, I begged President Bola Tunubu and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to arrest any group or persons that come to protest naked against Ndiomu in Abuja.

They are sponsored by people who do not like the way Ndiomu is working closely with the beneficiaries. And such persons are enemies to this present Government”, Wodo stated.
