The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State on Tuesday elected Chief Solomon Arenyeka as its new State Chairman, with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori urging the newly constituted State Working Committee (SWC) to commence immediate preparations for victory in the 2027 general elections.
Arenyeka emerged by consensus at the party’s State Congress held at the Cenotaph in Asaba. Elder Moses Iduh was elected Deputy Chairman, while Chief Efe Uko emerged as State Secretary.
Other officials elected through consensus include Chief Paulinus Akpeki as Delta Central Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba as Delta South Chairman, Engr. Daniel Ossai as Delta North Chairman, Elder Emmanuel Egbabor as State Organising Secretary, Barr. Valentine Onojeghuo as State Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Sobotie as State Woman Leader and Christopher Agali as State Youth Leader.
Chairman of the State Congress Electoral Committee, Engr. Vita Abba, declared the new executive elected following affirmation by delegates, noting that the process complied with the party’s constitution and guidelines.
Earlier, former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, moved a motion for the dissolution of the outgoing State Working Committee to pave the way for new leadership. The motion, seconded by Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, was unanimously adopted.
Addressing party members, Governor Oborevwori commended the outgoing executive led by Elder Omeni Sobotie for steering the party during what he described as a defining transition period following the political realignment of April 2025.
He said the alignment of Delta State with the renewed vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had strengthened the party’s position in the state.
The governor described the peaceful conduct of congresses across the 270 wards and 25 local government areas as evidence of the APC’s internal democracy, stressing that the process was based on consultation and inclusiveness.
Oborevwori charged the new executive to prioritise grassroots mobilisation, regular stakeholder engagement and strategic planning ahead of the 2027 polls.
“Our mission is to secure victory at every level — the Presidency, National Assembly, Governorship and State Assembly,” he said, expressing confidence that the Delta APC would deliver overwhelming support for President Tinubu and other party candidates.
In his acceptance speech, Arenyeka thanked party leaders and members for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to lead with integrity, transparency and teamwork.
He assured that the new leadership would work diligently to strengthen party unity and position the APC for success in the next electoral cycle.
The congress attracted party leaders and stakeholders from across the state, marking the formal inauguration of a new leadership structure for the Delta APC.
