The Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, has expressed profound grief over the passing of former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Benjamin Elue, describing his death as a monumental loss to Delta State and the Niger Delta region.
In a heartfelt condolence message on Saturday, Dafinone said he received with deep sadness the news of Chief Elue’s demise at the age of 85, noting that the late elder statesman lived a life defined by humility in service, dignity in leadership and an unwavering commitment to the growth of Delta State.
According to the senator, Chief Elue stood out as a statesman who understood the weight of public office and carried it with grace, wisdom and quiet strength.
“Chief Elue exemplified humility, loyalty and disciplined statesmanship. He demonstrated that loyalty in public service is not a weakness but a strength anchored on shared vision and common purpose,” Dafinone stated.
The late Elue served as Deputy Governor to former Governor James Ibori between 1999 and 2007, a period widely regarded as critical in Delta State’s democratic evolution. Dafinone noted that during those formative years, Elue’s steadfast support for his principal helped to foster stability within the executive arm of government.
He further described the former deputy governor as a firm believer in democratic governance, due process and strong institutions, adding that his legacy remains one of collaboration over conflict, service over self and progress over personal ambition.
“At a time when public service is often tested by division, Chief Elue remained a symbol of unity and disciplined leadership,” the senator added.
Dafinone, on behalf of the people of Delta Central Senatorial District, extended his heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s wife, Lady Esther Onyebuchi Elue, his family, the Delta State Government, political associates and the good people of Aniocha North.
He prayed that the life of service lived by Chief Benjamin Elue would continue to inspire leaders across generations and that Almighty God would grant his soul eternal rest.
