BREAKING: Former Super Eagles Coach Adegboye Onigbinde Dies At 88


 

Nigeria’s football community has been thrown into mourning following the death of former Super Eagles coach Adegboye Onigbinde, who died at the age of 88.

The passing of the veteran football tactician was announced by his family on Monday through a WhatsApp broadcast message signed by Bolade Adesuyi.

According to the message, the family expressed gratitude to God for what it described as a life well spent.

 

“With great gratitude to God for a life well spent, we announce the passing of this great man, a Modakeke High Chief, the first indigenous Nigerian Super Eagles football coach, father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, High Chief Festus Adegboye Onigbinde, who passed unto the great beyond a couple of minutes ago,” the statement read.

Onigbinde was widely respected in Nigeria’s football circles for his contributions to the development of the game and his role in shaping the country’s national team.

 

He was one of the earliest indigenous coaches to handle the Super Eagles and remained a prominent voice in Nigerian football long after leaving active coaching.

Beyond football, the late tactician was also a traditional title holder in Modakeke, in Osun State, where he served as a High Chief and community leader.
