Chief Ovo Edewor Mourns Oskar Ibru, Says Urhobo Has Lost A Towering Pillar Of Greatness


 

 

A prominent Urhobo leader and philanthropist, Chief (Dr.) Ogheneovo Edewor, has expressed profound grief over the passing of Olorogun Oskar Ibru, who recently passed on at the age of 67 years.

Edewor, who is the Olokun 1 of Eku and Founder of the Chief Ovo Edewor Foundation, described the late Olorogun Oskar Ibru as “a towering pillar of Urhobo greatness, philanthropy, and vision”.

 

The Eku-born businessman said Oskar passage is a a monumental loss to Delta State and Nigeria, considering his contributions to the development of the country.

 

Chief Edewor said the late Ibru’s influence went far beyond his boardroom stature as Chairman of the Ibru Organisation, noting that “his life was a legacy of service, culture, and uncommon generosity.”

 

“The passing of Olorogun Oscar Ibru is a monumental loss, not just to the Ibru family or Agbarha-Otor, but to Urhoboland, Delta State, and Nigeria at large.

 

“He was an older brother and friend, a towering figure whose contributions to business, education, and the arts will never be forgotten”, Edewor stated.

Born on August 11, 1958, Oskar Ibru was the first son of the late patriarch, Michael Ibru, and until his passing on September 24, 2025, at age 67, he remained one of the most respected sons of Agbarha-Otor, Ughelli North LGA.

 

Beyond his corporate credentials, Olorogun Ibru was revered across Nigeria for his deep commitment to philanthropy, community service, cultural preservation, and the empowerment of the less privileged.

 

Chief Edewor described him as “a businessman with a heart for his people,” whose benevolence touched countless lives.

 

“Oscar Ibru was more than a businessman; he was a leader who wore the Urhobo identity with pride and gave back at every turn. His legacy will continue to inspire generations long after him,” the statement added.

 

While praying for strength and comfort for the Ibru family, Chief Edewor urged friends, admirers, and institutions touched by Oscar Ibru’s generosity to sustain the causes and values he held dear, especially in philanthropy and culture.
