The Edo State Government has announced the resumption of the collection of provisional allocation letters for beneficiaries affected by the Oke-Oroma and Obagie-Nevbosa land demolition exercise carried out by the previous administration.
A notice issued by the Edo State Government Team on Oke-Oroma Land Restitution stated that the exercise would resume at the committee’s new office located at Block-D of the Edo Geographic Information Service (Edo-GIS) premises beginning from Thursday, May 14, 2026.
The notice, dated May 12, 2026, directed affected individuals and organisations yet to collect their provisional allocation letters to visit the new office for processing and verification.
According to the statement signed by the Secretary of the Edo State Land Restitution Committee, Dr. Abdulwasiu Oyakhire, the government also discontinued payments into the previous account used for processing charges.
The committee directed beneficiaries handling Lot-A and Lot-B matters to make subsequent payments through an Access Bank account under the name “EDOGIS OVERHEAD.”
The notice further stated that the Managing Director of Edo-GIS, Dr. Innocent Ehiaguina Bello, who chairs the restitution committee, would continue overseeing the process to ensure fairness and peaceful resolution of issues surrounding the disputed land.
The latest development follows earlier steps taken by the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo to return lands affected during the 2022 demolition exercise in Oke-Oroma Community. Earlier in January 2026, the Edo State Government confirmed the reallocation of about 2,950 plots of land to more than 1,500 affected property owners after verification exercises conducted by the Ministry of Lands and Housing.
The government said the restitution process formed part of efforts to restore properties to verified owners displaced during the demolition exercise carried out under the previous administration.
