Fresh details surrounding how ARISE TV anchor, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, popularly known as Sommie, tragically died on Monday from a robbery attack at her residence in Abuja have emerged.
According to her colleague and anchor of Trending Stories on the Morning Show of ARISE News, Ojy Okpe, the deceased reportedly jumped from a building when 14 gunmen stormed her residence at the Katampe area of Abuja.
Okpe said Sommie, who was rushed to the Maitama General Hospital in Abuja for medical attention, was rejected by officials of the hospital on duty.
Joined by other anchors of the programme, including Dr. Reuben Abbati, Rufai Oseni, and Ayo Ese, Okpe narrated how the rising television died from injuries sustained from the incident, while paying tribute to the deceased.
“Nigeria happened to her. I reached out to our correspondent in Abuja who detailed the circumstances surrounding her death. She jumped down from her home when she heard about 14 armed robbers came to her home.
“She did not die on the spot. She went to the hospital (Maitama General Hospital) and she was rejected. It was a tragic death. Sommie life could have been saved, but the hospital rejected her”, Ojy Okpe narrated.
On his part, Dr. Abati called on security agencies to probe the incident and hospital officials who rejected Sommie for treatment, noting that the incident must not be swept under the carpet like other cases.
It was learnt that the security guard at the apartment was reportedly killed during the armed robbery incident.
The Nigerian media space was on Monday thrown mourning following the shocking death of Sommie, a rising star and on-air personality with ARISE News Channel, who was killed during a robbery at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja.
