In a statement jointly signed by its President, Dr Oke Michael Aziakpono, and Spokesman, Dr Kingsley Oroh, the group described Aghalino as a visionary leader, accomplished scholar, and development-driven administrator.

It noted that the appointment of Aghalino as the second substantive Vice-Chancellor of the five-year-old university was well-deserved, citing his academic pedigree and administrative experience.

“We appreciate Governor Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori’s confidence in Prof. Aghalino’s abilities and look forward to his leadership, which will undoubtedly bring renewed focus to academic excellence, innovation, and community engagement,” the statement read.

The group added that the appointment reflected Aghalino’s dedication to advancing education and his commitment to the development of Delta State and beyond.

It further described the governor’s decision as “spot on,” noting that the new Vice-Chancellor possessed the capacity to drive meaningful reforms within the institution.

According to the group, Aghalino’s proven track record, strong administrative skills, and development-oriented approach make him well-suited for the role.

Aghalino was appointed Vice-Chancellor in March, succeeding Prof. John Oghojafor.

He is a Professor of History and a former lecturer at the University of Ilorin, as well as a past President of the Historical Society of Nigeria.

The group expressed optimism that his leadership would enhance the university’s research profile, strengthen academic standards, and accelerate institutional growth.

A native of Owhelogbo in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, Aghalino is expected to bring his wealth of experience to bear in repositioning the university for greater achievements.
