Nigerian International Charismatic Preacher, Rev Uma Ukpai, Dies At 80


 

 

Nigeria and the global Christian community are mourning the loss of one of the nation’s most revered spiritual leaders, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed on.

Ukpai, who passed on October 6, 2025, was aged 80.

 

Though Ukpai hailed from Asaga in Ohafia, Abia State, the preacher was based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where he also founded the Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA), a non-denominational gospel ministry.

 

The family of the televangelist announced the passage of preacher in a statement signed by the family on Monday.

 

His death, described by the family as a “triumphant homegoing,” marks the end of an era for Nigerian Pentecostalism and leaves a legacy etched deeply in the spiritual and cultural fabric of the nation.

 

The statement read, “With hearts full of gratitude, we celebrate the triumphant homegoing of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed on to glory on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80. A faithful soldier of the cross has been called to rest.

“Dedicating over six decades of his life to fiery evangelism, dynamic teaching of the Word and prophetic demonstrations of the power of God, he impacted millions of lives and transformed destinies within Nigeria and across the globe.

 

“He was a spiritual general known for evangelism, a founding father of faith, loving husband, devoted father, and mentor to many and his life was a testament to God’s power and love.”

 

Ukpai, who dedicated more than 60 years to fiery evangelism, prophetic ministry, and uncompromising teaching of the Word, is credited with transforming countless lives through his crusades, television ministry, healing campaigns, and mentorship programs across Nigeria and the world.

 

The renowned preacher attended the School of Journalism and Television, Frisham, Hermitage, United Kingdom; South Florida Christian College Miami, Florida, USA; Carolina Christian University and Burke Bible College, Kentucky, USA.

 

He held a Certificate in Electrical Engineering Practice, a Diploma in Journalism, a Bachelor and Doctorate Degrees in Divinity.
