The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has declared that prospective corps members without clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD) will not be mobilised for the mandatory national service.
The scheme issued the warning on Monday in a public notice posted on its official X handle, urging eligible graduates to obtain their NERD clearance early to avoid delays in mobilisation.
According to the NYSC, the verification has become a compulsory requirement for all prospective corps members.
“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the notice read.
Reiterating the directive, the scheme added: “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”
Although the NYSC did not provide details of the verification procedure, the latest directive signals a tougher screening process ahead of the mobilisation of the next batch of corps members.
The warning comes as the scheme prepares for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ orientation exercise and follows its recent call on tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all documentation required for mobilisation.
It also comes days after the NYSC advised prospective corps members against travelling to orientation camps at night due to security concerns.
The scheme urged them to break their journeys where necessary and spend the night in safe locations, including military and other security formations, rather than travelling after dark.
With preparations for the next orientation course in progress, the NYSC has advised prospective corps members to complete all registration and verification requirements, including the newly emphasised NERD clearance, to avoid being excluded from mobilisation.
