The governor, in his capacity as Visitor to the Polytechnic, also upheld the earlier suspension of the institution’s Registrar by the Polytechnic’s Governing Council.

A statement issued on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, said the decision was taken to pave the way for a thorough and unbiased investigation into the allegations levelled against the affected officers.

“The suspension of the principal officers is to allow for a thorough and unbiased investigation into allegations of administrative misconduct and financial breaches levelled against them by the Governing Council,” the statement read.

The state government further directed that the Deputy Rector should assume duties as Acting Rector for the duration of the suspension, while the most senior accountant in the Bursary Department will serve as Acting Bursar for the same period.

“The Deputy Rector shall act as Rector during the six-month suspension period, while the most senior accountant in the Bursary Department will serve as Acting Bursar for the same duration,” the statement added.

Although the details of the alleged infractions were not disclosed, government sources said the move reflects the Oborevwori administration’s zero tolerance for corruption, financial impropriety, and abuse of office within the state’s tertiary institutions.

The development has sparked reactions within the academic community, with stakeholders describing the suspension as a bold step toward restoring accountability and discipline in the management of the institution.

Governor Oborevwori, who has repeatedly emphasized transparency and good governance as key pillars of his MORE Agenda, is expected to receive the investigation report at the end of the six-month probe period before taking further action.
