Omo-Agege Mourns Departed World’s Oldest Monarch And Ohworode Of Olomu

The Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has described the late Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom in Delta State, His Royal Majesty, Ovie Richard Layieguen Ogbon, Ogoni Oghoro 1, as a symbol of untainted service to the people.

In a condolence message to the royal palace and the Olomu kingdom over the passing of the royal father reputed to be the oldest monarch in the world, Omo-Agege who is also the governorship flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State noted that HRM Ovie Richard Layieguen Ogbon dedicated his time on the throne to working for the development of his people.

The monarch joined his ancestors at 106 years, having ascended the throne at 70 and reigned for 35 years.

In a statement signed by Sunny Areh, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Senate President, the APC governorship candidate stated that the late monarch did not just promote the development of his kingdom but the entire Urhobo nation. He was the chairman of Urhobo Traditional Rulers Council otherwise known as Ukoko R’Ivie R’Urhobo.

“As chairman of the council of Urhobo traditional rulers, the Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom projected the unity of the Urhobo and rallied the council to speak with one voice. He epitomized the virtues of fairness, selflessness and purposeful leadership that our society sorely needs”, Omo-Agege stated in his message.

He commiserated with the people of Olomu and prayed for the repose of the soul of the late monarch.

The passing of the world’s oldest monarch was announced during a meeting of the traditional council at the Ohworode palace in Olomu by the Otota of Olomu Kingdom, Olorogun Macaulay Ovwagbedia.
